Gearing up for the Fearrington Artists open studio tour Saturday and Sunday, October 11-12 from noon-five pm. At my address, you’ll find my jewelry and photos. These earrings are sterling with faceted prasiolite drops.

This is a fiery labradorite stone set in sterling with an unusual round sterling adjustable length chain. This and other pieces of my jewelry and photos will be featured in two open studio tours. The first will be the Fearrington artists open studio tour the weekend of October 11th and 12th from 12-5 pm. My second studio tour will be part of the Chatham Artists’ Guild tour December 6th and 7th from 10 am to 5 pm.

This is a new photomontage with many layers. I find beauty in old dead trees stripped of their leaves and branches, standing like sentinels against the sky. My work will be part of a new exhibition at Show of Hands gallery in Pittsboro, NC, with the opening reception from 1-3 pm.

This past week brought jewelry inspiration and making new from the old. The piece pictured here was made from a turquoise stone I had set back when I was metal smithing. I turned it from horizontal to vertical and added heavy sterling chain and some vintage sterling barrel links. I think it now looks modern and sleek.

This leaf fell off my croton and I was struck by the beauty of its curves and the contrast between the healthy part of the leaf and the part that had started to shrivel, which reminded me about the passage from youth to age, all within one leaf.

Recently, I made a wild necklace by using a length of handmade bronze chain I found about 8 years ago at a cave antique store in Cappadocia, Turkey. With it, I put two different lengths of vintage sterling Italian chain and a pendant I created from muscling out the alphabet dial from an old post office box. These elements have been lying around in my studio for several years and finally told me they wanted to be together.

This is a new photo montage inspired by a walk in the neighborhood when I spotted the most vibrantly colored flowers I’ve ever seen. They looked as though they were lit from within.

I discovered some 22K gold wire among my supplies and used it to connect a necklace with a large faceted prasiolite stone and freshwater pearls on a sterling chain. Look for more photomontage to come.
